Dock Equipment That Has Been Modified

The age of dock equipment is rarely the problem. How many people have worked on it usually is. Over the years some equipment has had limits or light curtains bridged out, or wiring spliced and taped in the field. Here is why that matters and what to send us before we attend.

Why the installed specification matters

Our technicians work to the specification the equipment was installed to. When it no longer operates the way it was designed, we can't be confident about how it will behave. In that case we may recommend the company that made the changes, because they know what was done.

What to send before we attend

Photos of the equipment, its make or serial plate, and any control boxes or wiring that has been changed, plus whatever service history you have. That lets us tell you up front whether we're the right people for the job, rather than finding out after a callout.

Getting equipment back to its original specification

Where the structure is sound, a refurbishment can return equipment to the way it was designed. From there, planned maintenance keeps it that way.

Frequently asked questions

Will you service equipment that has been modified?

It depends on what has been changed. Send photos and any service history first and we will tell you up front whether we are the right people for the job.

Why might you recommend another company?

If the equipment no longer operates the way it was designed, the company that made the changes knows what was done. That can be the better option for you.

Is older equipment a problem?

Age is rarely the problem. Well-built older equipment can be worth keeping and, where the structure is sound, refurbishing.

Not sure what has been changed?

Send photos of the equipment, its make or serial plate and any changed wiring or controls.
